About Me

Spencer

I am a scientist doing research in bioinformatics and computational structural biology. I am interested broadly in questions about the function and evolution of proteins. I approach this by writing software to analyze similarities between distantly related proteins and domains, as well as applying tools systematically in high-performance computing environments. See my Research page for more details.

I am currently a postdoc jointly with Guido Capitani (Paul Scherrer Institute) and Phil Bourne (NIH). I received my PhD in 2015 from UC San Diego with Phil Bourne. In the past I’ve done research in structural comparisons, protein folding simulations, and protein cross-linking, and mass spectrometry.

Other interests include: 3D printing, electronics, hiking in the Alps, rock climbing, and computer programming.
